Glimpses of Gold

Glimpses of Gold

Sunlight caught a glimpse of gold

in the overgrown garden

behind the abandoned house

A woman’s wedding ring and a faded train ticket

Her voice long since forgotten

in the tangled honeysuckle and old grapevines

Plans laid so carefully fell apart

when exposed on that stormy morning

Was she afraid when the shouting began?

Her disappearance just a brief mention

on page three of the local paper

Her executioner had no fear of being caught

Her tortured memory waits

Shouting from her final resting place

Shrouded in glimpses of gold
